Our cast pewter buttons are all hand poured and you can find matching cape and sweater clasps on the Clasp Page of our site.  We also have matching earrings and pendants to some of these designs. These buttons are not shown actual size or in proportion to each other so please check size in the description?  We sell our buttons in packs of four.  The price you see is for four buttons on a card.   We also design custom buttons for individuals and groups.  See our custom page for samples.

These buttons are such a nice size for sweaters and the bold Celtic spiral design looks so classic on hand knit garments.  We sell allot of these to weavers and knitters.  To the best of our knowledge we are the only producers of hand-cast Celtic buttons.   We have had interest in these even in the UK because they can't find quality Celtic buttons!  These were hand cast in lead-free pewter that contains 2% real silver!  This is a nice hard pewter that holds it's shine better and is harder wearing than most pewter.  There are four of these Celtic Spiral, 5/8 " buttons on a green card. The loop on the back was designed to take bulky yarn or thread! The will also go on a leather thong should you want to sew these on leather.

These pewter buttons were cast by hand from lead-free jeweler's pewter.  The traditional spiral design is Celtic.  These are excellent on garments made from Icelandic or Shetland wool and look really beautiful on traditional Irish sweaters.  This is a very handy size button for cardigans at 3/4 inch.

These pewter buttons were cast by hand from lead-free jeweler's pewter.  The traditional spiral design is Celtic.  These are excellent on garments made from Icelandic or Shetland wool and look really beautiful on traditional Irish sweaters.  This is a bigger size button for capes, shoulder bags and ponchos that close at the neck. We offer this in a smaller size on this page as well.

These buttons are a deep-etched, Celtic spiral design that amazingly looks allot like Southwest Indian pottery from the Zuni tribe.  Since this bold spiral is deep etched and so wonderfully simple we find they look good on Norwegian style sweaters, Irish cable knit, and Southwest patterned sweaters.  This is a great size to have on hand for vests or cardigans. They are just shy of 3/4 inch.

These buttons are only a little different from our other Celtic Spiral but they have a little border around them.  That little ring sets off the design nicely and makes them a little bigger.  We use this style allot as it is a great size and a very classic design.  As with all our buttons ,these are handcrafted in fine, lead-free jeweler's pewter that contains 2% real silver.  These are hand cast in our studio over our horse barn and polished to a warm glow.  The back loop is large enough to accommodate bulky knitting yarn.  The buttons are  exactly  3/4 inch!    There are four buttons on the card.

These very handsome over-sized buttons were designed for capes and ponchos but they are great accents on bags and pouches and have allot of other uses, obviously!  This is the classic Celtic Horse design as seen on our other pieces.  They are hand cast in solid, lead free, jeweler's pewter.  These buttons were Inspired by the Pictish carvings of horses in Inverurie, Scotland. This is the classic Celtic Horse design as seen on  many of our other castings.  These buttons were inspired by the Pictish carvings of horses in Inverurie, Scotland. The design was taken from Bain and is a wonderful Celtic, zoomorphic, horse design. The etching is deep and clear. These buttons are slightly domed.  All our hand cast, pewter buttons have a ample hole big enough for yarn to pass through.  These fine Celtic buttons are part of our growing button line and all are cast from fine, lead-free pewter that contains 2% silver to make them  hard wearing as well as beautiful.  Leather workers buy these often to decorate pouches and other gear.

This Celtic Canines Pattern is one of our most popular button designs.  Cast in 100% lead free pewter they are striking buttons.  Each button is 3/4 inch and hand cast and antiqued in our studio. The design was loosely based on a knotwork pattern on a Scottish stone but the design was reinterpreted by the artist Beth Maxwell Boyle. There is a large loop on the back so you can sew these on with handspun yarn or bulky thread.  These are excellent for hand knit or hand spun garments and are popular with artisans and reenacters.  Sold only in packs of four.

These bold Celtic Buttons look wonderful on hand made garments!  The zoomorphic designs of the Celts are very striking and go well with cable knit or Arran sweaters.  This particular tryad of beasts is thought to be a form of lion or cat by most art historians. The buttons are 7/8" and slightly domed.  These buttons also have a nice big loop on the back to accommodate knitting yarn.  Four of these classic buttons come on a green card.  They are cast by hand of fine, lead-free, jeweler's pewter.

These wonderfully detailed buttons are based on a tryptic of figures from an ancient Celtic manuscript.   The buttons are 7/8 inch and come in sets of four as our other buttons are.  They are  deeply engraved but the picture does not do them justice. These buttons are a newer  offering in our high quality button line for textile artists and reenacters.  The elvish men buttons were cast by hand by James E. Boyle in solid, lead free, jeweler's pewter.

These little bagpipe buttons are so wonderful for vests and children's clothing.  They also are very nice for craft projects and leatherwork.  The little domed buttons are 1/2 Inch wide.  These would also work as shirt buttons.  This button was reproduced from an antique in our collection.  They have a loop in the back that is not as large as our Celtic buttons.

It is hard to see here but these buttons are slightly dished.  They are truly spectacular and the original antique button came from France. These buttons sell very well. If you held one in your hand you would see why. These are perfect for someone who raises Shetlands or Soay sheep.  They are just smashing on a vest.

These are a very handy size and weight button for sweaters and other garments you might hand weave or knit.  We also have several customers who use these buttons on leather pouches. They are about 3/4" but are ever so slightly larger. We purchased the original button in an antique store in Lancaster, PA and made a mold of this wonderful detailed Viking ship button.  We believe the original was made in Scandinavia in the 40s.   These buttons are hand cast in solid, lead-free, jeweler's pewter as are all our pieces.

These lovely thistle buttons were designed by Beth Maxwell Boyle and  were hand cast in lead-free jewelers pewter as are all our buttons.  These Thistle buttons are a nice handy size at 5/8 inch. The thistles are wonderful for celtic style sweaters, reenactor's projects, and  traditional sewing . The loop on the back is large enough for knitting yarn too!

Here is a pack of four little rabbit buttons on a card.   We made a mold for these from a lovely antique button from the 19th Century.   It is a light weight button with a nice feel and is 5/8". These would be particularly nice on a vest or child's dress. They are cast in lead-free, jeweler's pewter as was the original and  finished with a warm antique finish that matches the patina on the vintage one. The original is a most charming Victorian carving of a rabbits head surrounded by grasses in a little raised frame.  We couldn't resist buying and reproducing this one!. We found the antique rabbit button in Lancaster, PA the heart of Amish Country.

We reproduced this button from an antique 19th Century French Button.  It looks like a wee terrier dog.  The dog house is covered with ivy and the dog is on a chain connected to the dog house. The dog's bowl is also visible. The area around the dog is pierced out so you can see the fabric show through.  This are truly wonderful buttons!

Australian Shilling Buttons

This card of four Merino buttons is made from an actual 1943 Australian Shilling!   It was first domed and then a loop was added to the back.  Then a mold was made to cast the actual Shilling Buttons.  These fine buttons were hand cast in lead-free, jeweler's pewter.  The finish is antique to make them look like older, silver coins.   The buttons are 7/8".  These are excellent on a men's cardigan. These have some weight to them so keep that in mind when ordering.

Dog Buttons

 These grand dog buttons are cast by hand from leadfree jeweler's pewter.  The mold was made by artist/jeweler, James Boyle from a 19th Century Victorian stamping of a Newfoundland Dog's head.  The pack contains four beautifully antiqued buttons.  These buttons would be best suited to a garment such as a coat or heavy cardigan sweater. They are one inch wide!  They are fairly heavy.The loops on the back are large enough for yarn to pass through.  These buttons have become a very popular part of our line of knitters and weavers accessories.

We reproduced this button from an antique 19th Century, French Button.  These are highly detailed with a scene of a European style windmill like they still have in the Netherlands. This is a handy size and these are light weight enough you can use them on almost any weight fabric. France was once famous for its picture buttons and collectors still seek them out. We are proud to reproduce a few for you here at The Ram's Horn.

We reproduced this button from an antique 19th Century, French Button. We fell in love with these sweet, wee beastie buttons depicting a mouse or rat. You can decorate handbags with these or put them on a sweater or jacket and you will certianly will get noticed.  These are light for their size but not thin.  We think these are delightful!

The great American Mutton Button was the first offering of our button line.  These remain one of the most popular of our designs both for their wonderful appearance and for the fact that these buttons are quite light weight. They can be used on almost any garment that calls for a 3/4 inch button!   The hole or loop on the back is large enough for yarn.

Our Spinning wheel buttons are engraved with a Saxony wheel on a flat octagon. These nice little, engraved spinning-wheel buttons are the perfect size for vests and such.  The buttons are 5/8 inch and have a large loop so knitting yarn can pass through.  The design was taken from a 19th Century, steel engraved,  printers block and converted into this solid jewelers pewter button by the artist/jeweler, James E. Boyle.  They are hand cast in lead-free pewter by the artist. The spinning wheel buttons are part of the pewter collection in the Rams Horn textile arts catalog.

These Celtic Crane Buttons are really ornate and beautiful.  If you study the design closely you will see this is a zoomorphic pattern made up of four intertwined water birds. This is a large button and is 15/16" or just under and inch.  They look very good on a coat or heavy men's cardigan.  They are also great on capes and cloaks! These wonderful hand cast buttons have a large hole or loop in the back to accommodate yarn or thread.  These are among our most elegant buttons. They are made of a high grade jeweler's pewter.
