Franciscan Crown, Prayer Bead Necklace
by Beth Maxwell Boyle

$200.00

This is a 7 decade, tiger-eye, stone bead set with sterling silver accent beads and a large tiger-eye, Latin cross.

* The Franciscan Crown dates back to the year 1422

There are 7 small Greek crosses made of tiger-eye representing the 7 joys of Mary.  Tiger's eye is a member of the quartz group of chalcedonies. It is one of the chatoyant gemstones. Chatoyancy exhibits a changeable silky luster as light is reflected within the thin parallel fibrous bands. This effect is due to the fibrous structure of the material. Tiger's eye is mined in Western Australia, South Africa, USA, Canada, India, Namibia, and Burma.

This prayer bead necklace was inspired by the Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi, one of the greatest Christian prayers.

Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

 The Seven Joys of Mary
Traditional English Carol

The first good joy that Mary had,
It was the joy of one,
To see her ownsome Jesus
To suck at her breast-bone.
To suck at her breast-bone, good man,
And happy may you be,
O Father, Son and Holy Ghost,
And all eternity.

The second joy that Mary had,
It was the joy of two,
To see her ownsome Jesus
To make the lame to go.

The third joy that Mary had,
It was the joy of three,
To see her ownsome Jesus
As made the blind to see.

The next good joy that Mary had,
It was the joy of five,
To see her ownsome Jesus
As raised the dead to life.

The next good joy that Mary had,
It was the joy of six,
To see her ownsome Jesus
To bear the crucifix.

The next good joy that Mary had,
It was the joy of seven,
To see her ownsome Jesus
To wear the crown of Heaven.

The beads are strung on a 49 strand stainless-steel professional quality beading wire that is nylon coated . It has a lovely drape like cotton cord.

The heavy lobster clasp and spiral, cage, terminal bead are sterling silver  as are the decorative small beads between decades. The wire wrapon the Latin cross is also sterling.

The Franciscan Crown dates back to the year 1422. This Franciscan Crown necklace was designed and hand made by Beth Maxwell Boyle. This is suitable for a man or a women but it is a robust piece and probably is larger than a small women would wear. Tiger's eye (also called Tigers eye or Tiger eye) is a chatoyant gemstone that is usually a metamorphic rock that is yellow- to red-brown, with a silky luster. A member of the quartz group, it is a classic example of pseudomorphous replacement by silica of fibrous crocidolite (blue asbestos). An incompletely silicified blue variant is called Hawk's eye.
